It feels like every affiliate marketer is raving about Amazon niche sites.
But at this point I haven’t made a single dollar from Amazon. I’ve always preferred small, independent affiliate programs for a variety of reasons. Firstly they tend to pay a lot more, secondly I hear a lot of horror stories from Amazon affiliates complaining that they have been kicked off the program for various reasons and not been paid their commissions.
For me it feels like a no brainer. Independent affiliate programs are the way to go!
However, I’ve been reminded that there are many upsides to Amazon’s program. The main one being that Amazon is an extremely trusted brand, and so conversion rate is much higher for their affiliate program compared to others.
For that reason, I’ve decided to give it a shot.
My aim is to build an authority site, that provides useful information and generates commissions from both Amazon AND independent affiliate programs.
This way I can report and compare both methods.
The Niche + Website
It makes sense to pick a topic/niche that you know a lot about. I’m going with back pain and related topics/products etc because I have an interest in this topic and a lot of knowledge on it already.
I have a website on this that I started over a year ago and quit half way through the build. I think most people have these half-started projects – where they procrastinate too long and move onto something else.
That’s what I did with this one. BUT I’m going to go back to it and make it a success
This website already has some content and around 10-15 backlinks. You can find the website at www.myspinehurts.info

Intended Traffic Sources
I’m intending my main sources of traffic to come from Google (using SEO).
At some stage, I plan to build traffic from other sources. I think Pinterest is highly suitable for this niche. I may jump into Instagram and Quora for traffic sources, too.
How I’ll Make $$$
Amazon is going to be my main target. But I’m definitely going to build in other affiliate program links for comparison to figure out which I prefer.
What’s Coming Next?
Stay tuned for future parts, I’ll update with progress and how I’ve done it.
Please ask questions in the comments and I’ll respond as best I can.
